« on: February 04, 2010, 01:03:51 PM »
Hi... Here's the problem ... My pc is 3.2 ghz 1 gb ram and 5200 fx 256 v.card ... The thing is that Oblivion needs 128 card and somehow it dares to lag for me ... HARD ... *censored* ???!

what's the problem?

maybe visit canyourunit.com and have the site check out your computer configurations against the minimum specs of oblivion to see how well it'll go...  :P

Ok, try running the game and see how it goes, if you have not already done it.

To be honest with you, I feel a FX 5200 is not a good card for games. But if it can run oblivion and you're happy with the quality, then it's all good I suppose  :)

"the 128MB card" is a <minimum> system requirement.

take a look at the chart on this page:

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:System_Requirements

specifically, the chart states that the playability for the entire Geforce FX series to be "Extremely Low (without Oldblivion)"

I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

Its quite simple, the FX5200 came out god knows how long ago and even lowly flash applications choke it. I've seen that game chug on lower end nVidia GeForce 7xxx series cards, so there is absolutely no way you are going to get it to run smooth on a nVidia FX5200 128MB 64 bit AGP/PCI GPU Kebubas. I played that game through a few years back on a nVidia 256MB 128 bit PCI-E x16 7600GT, 2.8GHz Pentium D, and a gig of DDR2 667, had to scale it down to 1024x768 and turn quite a few settings down or off. Its rather intensive because the maps are all massive.

Games like Oblivion are a perfect example of this decades advances in computer hardware (and 3d technology that keeps thwarting them).

seconded. the card is just to darn old for newer games like Oblivion.

I never was able to get into Oblivion; I've never r eally been big on the whole Fantasy/medieval type stuff. Love fallout 3 though!

I can't remember who it was, but somebody said (I think it's on the forum somewhere, not sure) that they played through Oblivion many times when their average fps was <5... crazy.

Ah, I thought it was a 128 FX5200, a hundred twenty eight megs ain't going to make a difference though. Not on that little card, heck not on any card these days.

I love fallout 3 too, and I'm more into shooters myself, I've been playing Fallout since the original point and click game released in 1998, which was based on an older game called Wasteland. I've got the game of the year edition of Fallout 3, bought it 'cause it was cheaper to get the expansions that way. It chugs so I have to replace my GPU and probably my CPU. Particle effects kill me  :o , that is, if I can find a CPU that this board supports that hasn't been phased out or had the price jacked for the sake of saving or making a few pennies.

Kebubas, do you have any kind of budget to upgrade your computer? If so, find us some specifications on it and we can find you a better graphics card for cheap. They sell FX5500's (not that you should get one, they suck, horribly) for $20 now, I can remember when that card cost $200  ;D

i had 5500 128 but I don't see any difference now ... I had ATI Radeon 9600 pro 256 (I was able to play Oblivion on Ultra) before taking my PC to service. Now I have 3.2 ghz (instead of 1.8) 1 gig ram (instead of 512 mb) and FX 5200 256 (cuz my radeon was not compatible with the new m.board ... any alternatives people for my radeon ?
