Display goes blank after Windows welcome screen in XP
    « on: March 25, 2010, 08:18:57 AM »
I have a system which I had to reload my XP Prof. and when I boot up the system, everything looks normal on boot except after the welcome screen, the display goes blank.  The power light on the monitor starts blinking and the indicator light on the tower is still running.  I can boot in safe mode and it seems to work fine, so I eliminated bad monitor or driver.  Any help would be appreciated...

Actually if it works in safemode you haven't eliminated the driver...you've proved it IS the driver.
Do NOT use Windows update to update the driver...grab a fresh 1 from the manuf. site...

Broni, I don't know how you counted 764 posts...lol...I only put it into 6.  I use several at a time because I don't always get an answer.  I usually donate to the active help forums to help defray costs, so...give me a break please...

Did you install the chipset driver immediately after reinstalling the OS? After that, follow patio's advice and download and install the correct drivers for your video card, display, and audio card from the OEM web sites.

That is what I didn't do...I thought the driver was in the bios...I went to the mfg. site and updated the driver, and now all is well.
Thanks for the replies and the help
