    Computer Won't Detct Hard Drive
    « on: April 26, 2010, 05:19:16 PM »
HP Pavilion a1130n is the model.
Few weeks ago computer stopped working, won't detect the hard drive anymore.
I made sure the plug to the motherboard and PSU (*censored*/e they're called) were plugged correctly, and yeah. It just randomly stopped working one day (as far as I know) and I was just wondering if anyone had some advice how to check if it's the harddrive itself (Although I've tried 2 seperate hard drives, one of which I know works) or maybe the MB or PSU.
It turns on, I can go to the BIOS, I can run a Windows disk off the CD Drive, but.. yeah..
When it goes to booting from hard drive it just can't detect it >.>
Thanks in advance for any help, and if you need more info to do so just ask~

That's a good sign, if you can get to the BIOS and boot a CD.  If the hard drive can't be detected in the BIOS, it's probably dead.  You tried another hard drive and it was detected?  Then for sure the other one is dead.

You tried different hard drives and none are detected?  Is it IDE or SATA?

Ahhh crap. um..... The hard drives themselves? They say SATA on them in like 5 spots, so I'm gonna go ahead and say that. :P Sorry.

Could be the SATA cable is not making a good connection.

Sometimes the connector to the hard drive is not tight & the fingers lose contact.  You'll have to look real carefully to detect it.  You can push it to one side while you try to boot.  Be careful you don't break it.

Could this be a problem with the PSU? The computer still turns on and I can get to bios.
The harddrives still works in another computer. Could it be that the PSU isn't working properly? >< or.... not really..? Thanks in advance.
/e Nvm. Tried switching PSU and it didn't work =_=

if suppose system may have been worked well yesterday, but today it will not function or hard disk deducted.so you have to follow my ways
                1. just unplug all cables & power cables such as Hard disk, dvd cable etc
                then plug cable.

2.give another  power connector to hard disk.even though power connecter is faill, the
                hard disk will not deducted.

3.keep your hand on hard disk after system turn on. if you feel some vibration from hard disk, hard disk is fine conditions.

4.when system turn on, there should not removable disk from any usb port.

5.give first priority to hard disk in bios settings and second should be cd rom/dvd rom
