Slowness of the computer

P III, 1.13GHz, M/b-815E, 256Mb RAM, W-XP, AVG free is running very slow now a days. Earlier it used to boot in 20 Sec. Now it takes minutes together. I formated and reinstalled all again. But no use. Plz help.

A quarter of a Gig is very small.

Also, formatting and re-installing ( the hard drive) is a bit over the top. Do you mean uninstalling and re-installing??

You are stretching that machine beyond it's limits....that's why it's slow.

There many only be 2 channels, but the maximum each can take, on that particular motherboard is 512 MB, in each slot, making 1 GB in total.

Like i said before, and agreeing with what Patio says, you are  streching your machine. Your could do with more RAM.
