Reading a certain page of a board Here

    Hi all,

    While visiting this forum

while visiting a certian board you may not see all the pages there.

Say if you visit the 2 N D board in this forum, which is "Microsoft DOS"

    If there are 59 pages,

When you are at page 1 , you can see upto page 3 only.... like this:

    pages 1 2 3  ...  59

So here you can click page 2 and 3 to go to those pages.

But what if you want to go to page 7?

Well no way until you go to page 5 so that you can see the link "7"... and then click at "7".

Here is a method I have found :

if you are in page 2 in the "Microsoft DOS" board

    the url is this:

    http://www.computerhope.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=2;action=messageindex;start=20

if you are in page 3 the url is this:

    http://www.computerhope.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=2;action=messageindex;start=40

So what you can do is minus your page number by 1, and then multiply it by 20 and then add it at the end of the url.

    HOPE THIS HELPS

    Thank you Shouvik.

Is there any way I can persuade you not to post in red? It's a hard color for us oldies to read after a hard days work

Did you resolve your problem with Himem.sys

      Hi Dusty

Extremely Sorry I am (For posting in Red)

      My problem is not Himem.sys.

Actually i have a malfunctioning (or defective RAM)

i confirmed it from this site:

      http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=192397&sd=RMVP

All the error messages given here, I am also getting those messages.

Also i tested with Belarc advisor and it showed this:

      memory modules:

      64 MB installed memory

      slot 0 has 64 Mb

      slot 1 is empty

But actually i have two 64 Mb memory modules installed.[i.e. I have a total of 128 MB ram]

Now i have not worked with any internal parts of the Pc before so i don't know which one is slot 1 and which one is slot 0 , although i can see the two slots.

I am also not sure  if after removing one of them , my PC will run smoothly.

      I also did memtest86

      www.memtest86.com

but it went so long ... also i was not realising the results.

      Any suggestions?

Also is there any harm in restarting computer again and again with defecftive RAM?

Hi Shouvik - Thanks for the info in black.

I assume you know that you MUST turn off the power and earth yourself before plunging into the body of your pc - static can cause some major damage.

First thing I would try is to reseat the ram sticks where they are then try a boot up.  If that fails then remove one stick and boot again.  If it still fails then replace the first stick and remove the second.  It's just a matter of eliminating one stick at a time to find the defective one.

Win 98 will run on less than 64Mb with heaps to spare but some of your applications may not (I run 98se on 48Mb).  I don't think any further damage will occur if you boot with a defective ram stick.
