    Welcome to Computer Hope.

Do you do basic house keeping for the computer (i.e. disk defragmentation, updates to the os, etc)  Also what is the computer, what version of internet explorer, and what operating system are you using?

What do these speeds represent? What diagnostics tools did you use?

Have you added or changed any A/V programs?  Some internet security programs are absolute system hogs.  For instance Comcast ISP as an A/V program that is known for slowing down computers dramatically.

Some internet security programs are absolute system hogs.

This again is something that is brought up without any backup. I would suggest not to 'dis' a programme unless you can back up the argument.
'System hogs' are very easy to label but I ask you to prove it....

      +1

Goes double for things like advanced Systemcare, System Mechanic, and Fix-It Utilities.

That being said, I'm also curious what the 1.1 and 2.8 represent, and what they are from. This could be a problem with power management reducing the speed of the chip to aggressively or something.

      Mulreay,

By way of example, good friend of mine was offered CA Security by Comcast and installed it.. Program slowed his system to a crawl.  A common occurrence with this suite as verified by this Cnet review:   http://tinyurl.com/28lwbwr

If you go back a re-read my post,  I did not 'dis' a particular program, just a characteristic of some members of a class of programs.

Is the problem only with IE? And is it when navigating from one page to another? If so, none of the above posts are relevant. If it's something else please clarify the EXACT problem.

Geotheman, look very long and deep for malware slowing your system.
For my recent bout with a staggering computer, that meant using as many scanning engines as I could find.

GW has a solid point about system hogs, in my opinion.

CA Security did indeed slow my system and one of a friend, to a dead crawl.  When it was cleaned off completely, all was back to normal.

Next in line on the resources hog is Norton Internet Security, in my experience.

Iolo System Mechanic was never a hog for me all the years I used it.

I am posting my experience and opinion, not trying for any proofs.

I would defrag the pc and download ccleaner just to clean out all the registry and trash.. and also delete most but current system restore
