    In the boot.ini file wen it says       default=multi{0}

    Is this telling the system you are useing   iDE Drives?

    It can mean an IDE, EIDE or ESDI controller or a SCSI controller that has its ROM BIOS enabled.

      I think I understand I have  iDE drives  and in the BiOS  iDE is enabled  so this is why it says
      default=multi{0}

      That is why you see multi. The (0) refers to the first IDE or EIDE or ESDI or SCSI with ROM bios controller.

        Well it says
        default=multi{0}disk{0}rdisk{0}partition{1}\WINNT

        disk{0} = the first iDE interface.

        rdisk{0}  =  the  master Drive.

        so  default=multi{0}     tell the BiOS you are using  iDE drives?

        Actually it's always gonna report multiple...even if there is only 1 drive partition. available...
        It's the default.
