    Random Shut Offs
    « on: July 07, 2011, 11:43:51 PM »
I just put in two new pieces of hardware; a hd6870 and a ocz 1000w power supply.  I had been using a 520w power supply and the onboard graphics before this.  Everything seemed fine for about a week and then I woke up one morning to find my pc off.  The power button on the front and the other directly on the motherboard didn't respond.  After pulling the plug and waiting a couple minutes for the light in back to go off then plugging it back in it would turn on.  About 2-3 days later the same happened and then again today, which was another couple days after last.  I was around to catch it doing this and felt all the components in my pc and everything is rather cold, except the cpu which feels rather hot.  The heatsink is the one that came bundled with the cpu, so it's not too beefy.  Obviously I'm suspicious that this is a heating issue, but I was hoping I could get some more experienced opinions and suggestions.

    Thanks in advance, Paul.

When the computer does turn on could you install HWMonitor and post a screenshot of your idle temperatures/temps while on stress?
I think its the CPU triggering the Tj. Max, but it might well be something else.

    Download link to HWMonitor.

That's the temp after a fresh reboot. I'll get one under stress a bit later.

I should also add that the power supply was a refurbished one from ncix.com.

CPU-ID Hardware Monitor doesn't always read the values correctly, it depends on the computer.

This is after letting it sit by itself, untouched, while I was at work.  Note, this is not after a stress test.

Temps are all within normal limits.  Voltages are way off, i.e. +12V is 9.6V.
