New computer, wifi just does not work
    « on: August 29, 2011, 06:22:44 AM »
So i just purchased a Asus laptop model K53E. If there is other info you need, then tell me since i am new to this. But anyways, at the same point and time i purchased a new netgear router (N3000 model: WNR2000). I wanted to get a new one since the old linksys was dropping big time. So i install the router, and it works fine. It has a constant good connection for three other laptops and xbox live. It even seemed to work fine at first with my new Asus laptop at first. Then i noticed that terribly frequently the connection would just drop. For example, i would be browsing the internet and then a page would simply not load. This happens literally all the time i try to do anything and at this point i cannot even really access the internet because it does not have any type of steady connection. Again, i know it is not the router since it works perfect with all the other devices in my house. I tried a few things like switching the router channel from 6 to 11, I unistalled the drivers to the network adapters and reinstalled them with no progress. I know I left scarce info but i really need help this problem is killing me right now. I cant even use my new laptop on the internet. Forgot to mention, when i troubleshoot the network adapter on device manager it says the default gateway was not connected, not sure if that helps at all

If your ASUS laptop is new, it should be covered by a warranty. Why don't you take it back to the computer shop and notify them of the problem? It seems like the best solution.

Also, does this happen as well while having an ethernet connection or it's only with your Wi-Fi?

Yeah thats what im thinking too. It is only with the wifi, it works perfectly fine with an ethernet cable directly to my router. Also, i remember i did a different test yesterday and it failed the ping test if that helps

Does ASUS give tech support via phone during the warranty period?  If so, I'd try it.

Edit: See http://support.asus.com/contactus.aspx?SLanguage=en for info in support, including phone contact #s.

I called Asus. They had me reinstall the wireless network adapter drivers and restart my pc. This did not resolve the problem and it has not changed it at all.

Did it worked before you had the laptop first hand? If these occured instantly right out the first time you have used the wireless connection till now, tell them about the problem.

If it fails out of the box, take it directly to the store.

No default gateway = no internet
