    dead update

How long does it take for windows to do a typical update?  The screen said "don't power down..." for about two hours so I figured it was locked up and shut it down.  It restarted fine.

should not take very long, never have seen updates take forever to do for me except when processing a lot of updates at once. (doesn't mean this can't happen, just it didn't to me)

the service pack update back in the day took long.......

"Typical update": maybe up to ten minutes.
Service pack updates: up to several hours.
