my pdf reader program unable to open other programes like internet explorer y?

i have installed adobe 10.1.0 in windows7 note book. but after installation most of the program icons changed into adobe icon and not opening any programs like internet explorer. when adobe reader uninstalled every thing revert back to normal.but i want to install adobe reader.. so kindly tell me why that was happening n solution for my problem?

Adobe Reader: http://get.adobe.com/reader/direct/

Shortcuts 'program items' associated with Adobe Reader will automatically change to the Adobe icon after installation. This is normal.

Your Internet browser can still be opened through its direct shortcut.
The default path for Windows 7 Internet Explorer:

• 64bit path is C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer
• 32bit path is C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
