Re-installed XP and now have no sound??
    « on: February 09, 2012, 09:47:30 PM »
Since re-installing windows XP professional on my computer, it suddenly refuses to play sound. Under "Sound and Audio Devices Properties" it says there is no audio device installed. I have done everything I can think of, and this is my last resort before taking it in to a computer shop.

There are no yellow exclamation marks in device manager, I can't check the "show volume icon in tray" under audio because it is greyed out, I've downloaded and installed the necessary driver for the sound card several times over, I've uninstalled it from device manager and rebooted so it force reinstalls, I've re-re-installed windows, I've run the computer in safe mode and repeated above steps..

I assume it's built in to my motherboard, because when I took the computer apart there was no obvious card in a slot, and the wires from the headphone jack etc run straight into the motherboard.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I don't really want to be shafted by the computer companies..

Re-install the Chipset drivers either from  your original Driver CD or from the ASUS site and re-boot...
