device manager missing category DVD/CD-ROM drives
« on: September 23, 2005, 09:09:33 AM »
The category DVD/CD-ROM is gone from the device manager. All my DVD/CD-ROM  are being detected as hard disk drives. So I can't burn either dvds or cds. I also have troubles reading them sometimes. Please help.

I have windows xp.

Try removing them. Restart the computer to allow for redetection.

I tried. They're not listed under any category in "device manager" now. The category DVD/CD-ROM is not showin up yet.

Windows explorer is still "thinking" my dvd/cd-rom drives are hard disks.

Change BIOS (CMOS setup) configuration.

After you check the BIOS settings, check each device in Windows device manager to see what the status is.

Does it say the device is working properly, or does it give an error code number?  If an error code, let us know what it is.

Do you have the driver CD that came with the DVD drive?

Best regards,
