Ipod / Itunes cover art question.
    « on: May 29, 2012, 08:03:24 AM »
    Hello again all,

Trying this Ipod thingy again and down loading my cd collection to itunes.

    1. I noticed they still haven't found a way to keep an artists collection sorted by the year each cd came out. Still only in alphabetical order.

    2. Is the only place to get cover art from Itunes? Itunes does have some obscure artists solo projects etc etc but they don't have anything, so far, from a band like AC/DC ? So far not one cd featuring Bon Scott has cover art for it.

    Thanks in advance.

Hmmm this place is usually never stumped !

pt 3. when you add new cds to itunes and then download the new cover art. Does it have to down load your entire catalog again or is there a way to just download the new ones needed ?

      Again thanks in advance.

Wow. My 5 year old Walkman MP3 player has this. Though I think it only applies for everything, not just specific artists.

The cover art of an MP3 typically depends on the application you use to rip it. I imagine ITunes uses it's own service. Other media players that can perform this function can use other services. For example, my preference for Music has been Winamp, which can rip CD tracks and has been able to retrieve the cover art for everything.

And for those tracks whose covers it cannot pick up, I usually find a download for an image, and use MP3tag to embed it in the MP3; the album art will then be visible on my MP3 player or in winamp itself if desired.

It might be possible to get something to use within iTunes to use additional CD databases for track names and cover art.

I've never used iTunes, so I don't know any specific workarounds to your problems, aside from the obviously unhelpful "use another media player".

Personally I only use iTunes to listen/preview music. Anything else like maintaining my computer music library or whatever device I'm using I use a few different methods with free software.

http://www.mediamonkey.com <- The free version will do everything you need including adding cover art.
http://www.mp3tag.de/en/ <- Another way of sorting music. I use this to strip all of the extra meta-data loaded into the ID3 tags I don't want there.
http://www.getsharepod.com <- I don't use it much but it does come in handy now and then.

Try out Media Monkey. It does everything iTunes is supposed to do without the headaches.

        Thanks folks.

I "thought" you can only use Itunes to connect to your Ipod.

The free ones also connect ? If so I will give Media a try.
