outlook 2003 - Please help!

Under personal folders, next to "inbox" my counter shows (4) new emails.  However, there is no new email.  When I get a new email, it shows (5).  After I delete the new email, the counter goes back to (4).  How do I default this to 0?  Thanks for your expertise

New e-mail can refer to old e-mail that just has not been read, or was changed to appear to be unread.

If Outlook supports the following, try it:

Right click on the Inbox and select Mark as all read or something in that manner.
