how to connect to internet using an Ipad

HELP!  My current computer is an acer 8.9 inch netbook bought four years ago and I use an ethernet connection to connect to the internet.   Can I use the ethernet to connect to internet using an Ipad and if not, what kind of equipment do I need to do so and where would I get it?   I currently use a router/modem from Verizon.  I never had an Ipad and have no idea how to connect. Thanks.  If you could answer in detail, that would be GREAT.

iPads need a WiFi signal. You need either a wireless router, a wireless access point connected to your router, or a cable modem with built in wireless acces support.

The OP has both an Amer and an I pad?
Ask yur service provider about using a wireless router.

You can either use WiFi or if you have the the iPad model that has cellular network then you don't need an external device
