lost search function

I am running windows 7 and I am using google.  you know when you type something in the search box top left of page the box retains this .
if you then go to the little arrow (the drop down box) on the right it opens up and you can see all you have typed  you can also  delete
what you have typed. my little arrow has stopped working when I press it nothing happens.any idea why.

Could try repairing the browser which will set everything back to defaults and should correct this. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378
