    Dual monitor help
    « on: January 19, 2014, 08:08:40 PM »
Hi, I have a Hewlett Packard pavilion elite computer with windows seven.  My wife recently won a computer monitor from her office and I am trying to hook it up to the computer.  I will give as much pertinent information as i can.  My original display is an hp 2010i 1600x900 lcd monitor that is connected to the tower with an hdmi cable via a dvi adapter.  the display I am trying to get to work is an hp 1940 and I am using a brand new rocket fish vga cable.  When I go to the display options and try to set up the dual monitors it shows that there is a display via vga but nothing is showing up on the second monitor.  when i hit the power button is says no signal and goes to sleep.  I've tried messing around with the resolution on both screens and nothing seems to work.

When you boot the PC, does the BIOS show on both monitors?

Have you ever had the new monitor  work?
Try setting the new monitor as the only  monitor and see if it comes on.

I tried setting the display to only show monitor two and it stayed blank.

Sounds to me like the vid card doesn't support HDMI and VGA at the same time...
Just because you have multiple connectors doesn't mean it'll work...
Visit the Card manuf. site for more info...

Maybe hit "Windows button" and "P"
Or can you select the source on your second monitor? (If it has multiple connectors, eg VGA & DVI & HDMI)
If it has these try to connect it via HDMI or DVI and NOT VGA (D-sub).

Maybe this helps, but I'm not sure.
