Freezing Computer
« on: February 22, 2014, 08:46:04 PM »
So I built a new computer and as the title suggests, it freezes.  But only when i'm playing any sort of game.  I ran netflix for something like 5 hours with no problem.  But I've played 3 different games and after about an hour in, the computer freezes.  The computer specs are as follows:

MOTHERBOARD:
Asus Z87-C
CPU TYPE:
Intel® Core™ i5-4670 CPU @ 3.40GHz
SYSTEM MEMORY:
17.11 GB
VIDEO CARD MODEL:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
VIDEO CARD MEMORY:
4.29 GB
POWER SUPPLY:
850W

Any suggestions and/or help are greatly appreciated.

Run a program like HWMonitor (url]http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html[/url]) to check the temperature of your CPU and video card when running a game. Start HWMonitor, run the game for a short time (Not long enough for it to freeze) then go back and post the maximum temperatures reached.

Also, what make/model of power supply are you using?

Ran Civ5.  Max CPU temp was 120F (49C) and Video Card was up to 131F (55C).  Motherboard and Hard drive temps never went above 80F
