Removing A Dell processor?
« on: November 22, 2005, 02:48:00 PM »
A question. I was thinking about upgrading my old xps Dell Pentium 4. Not through myself but though tiger direct getting a Fx-57 Amd Athalon 2.8ghz and upgrading my old card.

Can i remove my dell processor to install my new athalon (all in the dell xps box) and will that require me having to purchase a new mother board.

Please help me.

through my knowledge, you will need a new motherboard, if u are switching from an Intel Processor to an AMD. But It is quite easy to replace a processor, I suggest that you do it yourself. It's not hard to learn how.

I don't believe you will have any luck with a non-Dell motherboard in a Dell case. Those and the power supply units are proprietary. If you intend to pursue this, be careful, or just  buy a new case while you are at it.
