Windows 10 Not Shutting Down

When I've finished a session on the computer I click start then I go to power click on it , when the three options pop-up I click on Shut Down. A few seconds later the computer shuts down. Then a couple of seconds later the computer starts up and then I have to repeat the shut down process. This goes on until the computer shuts down completely.

Any ideas.

Is it possible that there pending updates that are being installed?

Thanks for the response Strollin.

I feel it's not a case of pending downloads being installed otherwise I would have had a blue screen with a message saying updating your computer.  Then when the computer restarts I don't see a  message saying configuring your computer - do not turn off.

SuperDave, why should I need to run a security check. How's that going to tell me why I can't power-down my computer?
