"Send To..." problem
« on: February 03, 2006, 09:17:55 PM »
Hi all.

I can no longer add shortcuts to my "Send To..." context menu.

I used to do it by hilighting the SendTo folder then File --> New --> Shortcut which gave me the wizard to create the shortcut.

Now, instead of getting the wizard, all I get is a small message window with "Problem Creating Object" in the title bar, and the "The operation completed successfully" message.

Then a shortcut appears called "New Shortcut" but it's empty. It goes nowhere.

Something else I just noticed that may be related is that when I right-click the start button,
the "Open" option is grayed out and inactive.

I use win98se.

I'm not a super expert, but I'm no newbie either. This has got me stumped.
The only thing I can think of which might coincide with this, is my recent usage of a personal data eraser that erases a few registry keys. But that's should be related to web data. Not anything system related.

Anyways, there it is.
I hope you guys/gals have the fix, 'coz I miss my SendTo option  :'(

This could be related to your mouse problem.
Is your computer free of viruses and spyware.

        :-?  :-?  :-?
Actually, the mouse problem is about one year old. The "Send To..." problem is just recent.

        She's squeeky clean  8-)

I got the vb script from kellys-korner, and I'll try it on a bit later.
It's for XP, but it might still work [fingers crossed  :) ]

I wouldn't use the XP script.
          Is your windows uptodate?

I'll look at it. Maybe it's tweakable  ;)
If not, then maybe there will be one for 98 around, somewheres.
I didn't know there were such things as vb scripts to "fix" things.

How long since you reinstalled Windows? It might just be time to solve all problems this way.    ;)

Can you create shortcuts in other folders or on your desktop? If you can, create the shortcut you want there, then copy and paste it into the "SendTo" folder. I assume you're creating a shortcut to an application and not to a folder.

We both wrote about the same thing at the same time.
But your post showed up just before mine.

When I clicked the "Post" button and saw your post and mine saying the same thing,
I edited mine by erasing it and then I wrote the little joke about our telepathy  :D

Dragging the exe file to the SendTo folder does create a shortcut.
It's not a fix to the problem, but it will do for now  :)
