    Antivirus for windows 10 laptop
    « on: December 19, 2022, 12:37:39 PM »
    Hi,

Recently I got a new windows 10 HP laptop, and I'm not very familiar with how computer antiviruses work but it seems that I may have inadvertently installed Mcafee on my laptop. Is Mcafee necessary since I already have defender installed on my pc or is it good to have both? Defender comes with the computer automatically correct?

Windows Defender is really all you will need. Many new computers come with another AV installed but you can remove them.

I would uninstall Mcafee and just stick with Windows security (defender). One thing which is good to do is make a backup to an external hard drive.

Windows 10 and 11 has a tool to do backups, see here for method.   https://www.windowscentral.com/how-make-full-backup-windows-10

Hi guys, thanks for the responses.

I'm going to go ahead and safely uninstall Mcafee as suggested, I must have installed it unknowingly, because on my previous windows 10 computer all I had was windows security and that always worked out for me but I guess as you mentioned, SuperDave it could have come installed since this computer fairly new(few months)

And thanks Lisa_maree for linking me to the tool for backups, will go ahead and do that. How often would you recommend is it good to backup to an external hard drive?
