I know that Windows Firewall does not block outgoing traffic, but other than that, is there anything that makes it less secure than a commercial firewall (free or paid)?

If one's system is clean, then is there any reason to worry about outgoing traffic?

Well, it's just not a strong firewall. besides not monitoring outbound, the inbound is weak. It's easy to pass. I suggest downloading ZoneAlarm.

Also less frequent updates. So like Flame said, some freeware would be good.

That seems to be the general consensus.

I have been using Kerio for a while now, but just recently installed it in basic mode (was in advanced mode for quite some time), which i think just blocks incoming, so I just got to thinking, if thats all I'm gonna do, then why bother?

Becuase viruses and Spyware will take advantage of this and possibly send personal information outbound.

No, i mean, why bother with another firewall if all i'm gonna do is use the basic mode that only stops incoming traffic.

But some virus and spyware are not bothering the basic mode, i mean is they can easily attack your pc that you dont know (and sometimes hacker also)
thats why we advice that you installed other firewall
          im using Zonealarm

It's not just a matter of what you are using the computer for, it what's inside your computer we're worried about. I would just download and install ZoneAlarm anyway. You need to be safe.

I Had a computer with firewall turn off for over a year now but nothing had happen to me yet. The only things i have got turn on is Winpatrol to protect registry changing and anything is movingly supicous on my computer.
I have ewido running to protect malware. It was fine.

Well flame you have AOL dont you ? does a AOL modem have a firewall build in side if it has then i was wrong.
Ive now using lavasoft as my firewall now just to be super safe.

I used to have AOL, and my parents still do. You can download their Security Edition firewall and virus protection (McAfee I think), but as far as modems go, I don't think there's any protection... AOL's servers might have something, but I don't know off hand.
