help!  my aura.com pop-ups
« on: July 12, 2006, 09:10:47 AM »
Within the past couple of weeks I have been getting pop-ups from the myaura.com website.  One day they just started appearing.  I get 20+ myaura pop-ups in an internet session.  I am using AOL's built-in browser and have the Internet security settings set on high.  How do I get the popups to stop?  Please help me!

Have a read and learn a lot:

http://www.computerhope.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1149948530

You didn't say what you were using for protection (or anything else about your system for that matter!).

And did you do this in Safe Mode with System Restore turned off?

How about posting a Hjack This log file. It will take several posts to get it all. The link is in my previous response.

Ok first thing... Unzip HiJack this... otherwise it will cause problems if anything goes wrong.

You only have a few optional fixes... [You don't have to fix spywarebot but it's just a suggestion.

If you choose to remove spywarebot

Go to add/remove programs and remove SpywareBot. It is a rogue antispyware and gives you a lot of f/p

    Then fix these:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpywareBot] C:\Program Files\SpywareBot\SpywareBot.exe -boot
    O9 - Extra button: WeatherBug - {AF6CABAB-61F9-4f12-A198-B7D41EF1CB52} - C:\PROGRA~1\AWS\WEATHE~1\Weather.exe (file missing) (HKCU)

    Find and delete these folders:
    C:\Program Files\SpywareBot

    reboot.

go to Control Panel > Internet Options > Privacy tab

Make sure your cookie settings are as follows:

First and third party = prompt
    Always allow session

    Clear your cookies.

That should get rid of the pop-ups...
