What kind of hardware is on the machine - processor, RAM, CD/DVD drives, etc.

I would be inclined to try another Live CD. If that doesn't work, I would say it is a hardware problem involved.

The specs of the machine dictate which next option I would recommend.

The DBX files that Outlook Express uses are located in:

c:\ (or whatever drive windows resides on)
Documents and Settings
Username (your username)
Application Data
Identities
GUID Identifier (random string like {3B0FA092-2222-1111-A1B2-111A1AA1AAA11}
Microsoft
Outlook Express

You might try a Knoppix CD and see if the machine will boot with that:

Click on just to the right of where it says ISO1

http://iso.linuxquestions.org/version.php?version=342

If it is a hardware problem, Windows will not solve it.

i dont think it is a hardware problem...

but either way im guessing i cant get 2 my c drive unless i have a disc to boot from... is that right... 2 bad i cant get in through setup...

if i do a full format and install i will lose everything right

Nikki,

Your hard drive can always be installed as a slave on another, working system.  You will then be able to access all of the contents, including the OE databases, as GX1_Man suggested.

Sorry - I missed that it was a laptop.  You might be as well to get a 2.5 to 3.5 IDE drive adapter (search for it on eBay).  You can then put your laptop's hard drive into a regular PC.

Oh I see.  It's the middle of the night - I'm a bit slow!

The short answer?  You don't.  Find another PC.  Sorry!
