ok so i wanna record things with sound recorder but it doesnt work at all an error message comes up saying ANOTHER APPLICATION IS RECORDING AUDIO, STOP RECORDING WITH THIS APPLICATION AND THEN TRY RESTARTING SOUND RECORDER.

but if checked all of anything that would be using the audio to record and theres nothing thats using it it worked before but now it doesnt. and its not only the sound recorder i cant get the microphone to work on anything

I would suggest posting a lot more information about your system, operating system, what precceded this and if it ever worked like you envision?

Don't use sound recorder - it bites.  Try Audacity (it's free) or Goldwave (excellent, but not free).  They'll do a much better job.  See the software FAQ (link in my signature) for Audacity.
