Question: Can I reformat my current hard drive that has Win98 using recovery disks from another computer that has WinXP?

To my knowledge, no. Recovery disks for pre-bought machines are configured to that machine and won't work with other machines.

Besides being illegal it cannot be done. You will need to buy a legal copy of Windows for that machine.  ;)
