Two New Files?
« on: November 19, 2006, 02:43:56 PM »
Hopefully this is in the right topic... I am semi computer illeterate - but i noticed that next to my normal files I always have in my C: drive - over the past two days two new Folders have appeared. Im afraid this may be a virus in the works.
One appeared yesterday - and is named 441f4bcb0a35b1e0b57072ed27
The other was created today (the 19th) and named 34c01d88a01a324b8228505ccc

Now all that the folders contain are 1 single text document.

These are the first few lines of the newest one to appear:
=== Verbose logging started: 11/19/2006  3:01:58  Build type: SHIP UNICODE 3.01.4000.2435  Calling process: C:\WINDOWS\system32\msiexec.exe ===
MSI (c) (EC:B8) [03:01:58:041]: Resetting cached policy values
MSI (c) (EC:B8) [03:01:58:041]: Machine policy value 'Debug' is 0
MSI (c) (EC:B8) [03:01:58:041]: ******* RunEngine:

Anyone have any idea as to what this is? And if it might be a virus soon to kill my computer?
Any help would be great
thanks

What are you using for malware protection? What recent changes have you made to your system? Have a read:

This may be the result of a recent Microsoft update also.

From the Mothership:

Quote
Description:
msiexec.exe belongs to the Windows Installer Component and is used to install new programs that use Windows Installer package files (MSI). This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.

What have you installed recently ? ?
Did you happen to get bored with an automatic update and cancel out of it ? ?

woo, been busy> sorry. Anyways, now that you say it- i have three and my computer has shut down by itself three times while ive been away. So prolly its the automatic updates then... because i know it automaticaly logs you off after like four minutes and restarts itself unless you press a key.

I hik this must be it. Thank you for your help
