Big problem
« on: December 29, 2006, 04:07:32 PM »
I can usally muddle though most problems but this one has got me stumped. I believe I have a bug. I first noticed windows media acting up I have a lot of music and like to burn cds. I got a popup saying that I needed to update windows media so I did. Opps Everything slowed down. Then I noticed that my virus protection from at&t yahoo was off. Funny I turned it on , it went back off. Now I know I have a problem!

I picked up a virus program called defender pro and tried to remove my old virus software to install it. No dice The programs will not pull up on the list in the control panel. Ok fine so I try to install it anyway. Not good the system shut down and I can not get it to restart properly it hangs up right when the desktop starts loading.

I rebooted and tried to startup in safe mode but the keyboard is turned off untill you get to the signin screen. Crafty little devils >:( Reset my cmos by pulling the battery and changing the jumper. No luck. Looks like I am stuck :-?

Any ideas?
Thanks
Frige

Well I still have a problem. I got it to start and it will basicly function but I cannot delete files. When I go in to the add/delete file window in control panel it says "list being populated" but never shows the files. I did get the virus protection to stay on and ran a sweep. It shows clean but I dont beleive it. How do I remove the old yahoo supplied virus program if control panel will not cooperate? :-?
    Thanks

      Try Ccleaner >Tools.
Sometimes a clean install of Windows is a good option. :)

Let it sit and populate...grab a coffee, go shopping etc.
This sometimes happens when a HDD is too full or is heavily fragmented.
Have you ran diskclean and defrag recently ? ?
How much free space do you have ? ?
