    First build questions, esp PSU
    « on: March 11, 2007, 11:25:10 AM »
I am building a budget system for my dad (my first build). Does anyone here see any potential problems with this configuration, mainly in the RAM, mobo, CPU, and PSU? I originally had an ECS board but had problems so I returned it for the Asus.

Case: RAIDMAX Elite ATX-208 Beige 0.7mm SECC ATX Mid Tower
Mobo: ASUS P5PE-VM LGA 775 Intel 865G Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
    CPU: Intel Celeron D 331 Prescott 2.66GHz 256KB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor
    RAM: CORSAIR ValueSelect 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) (VS512MB400)
    HDD: WD400 40 GB ATA
    DVD: LITE-ON Beige 16X DVD-ROM 52X CD-R 32X CD-RW 52X CD-ROM 2MB Cache ATAPI / E-IDE Combo Drive
PSU: Rosewill RV300 ATX 300W Power Supply 115/230 V CE, cUL, CSA, CB, TUV, FCC, NEMKO, DEMKO, SEMKO, TC

Some folks on another board are dogging my PSU selection.

Does anyone here know much about Rosewill PSU's?

Would any of these be better?

What's the PC going to be used for mostly?
    What's your budget?
And your links at the end do not work.

You don't need anything too powerful then.
I'm not sure about any of those PSUs, not heard of any of those brands.
The PSU is an important part of any PC, saving a little by buying a cheap PSU now could lead to you needing a much more expensive replacement PC.
Hopefully someone else who knows a little more about power supplies can advise on some good ones here.
It doesn't help that I'm not in the US so I don't know pricing and brands over there.
But the rest if your build looks fine to me.
Be aware, however, that the motherboard has limited upgrade potential, which may not be a problem.

After speaking to Asus tech support, I have determined that the mobo needs:
        +3.3v/28a
        +5v/30a
        +12v/18-20a

The PSU that I have does not meet the 18a on the +12v.  Nor do two of the three I posted above.

The only one that does is the CoolMax.  The price is in my range. Is this an OK brand?
