Totally confused, please, please help
« on: April 03, 2007, 12:08:51 PM »
Hi everyone

I relly hope you can resolve an issue for me, i might be going crazy :P

I am running my PC on vista home premium. I want to partition my C drive ( please see attachment ) Under my computer Cdrive is clearly marked as so. However when i open Disk management i only see drive 0 listed with the same capacity as my C drive.

I want to partition C drive or 0. Then right clicking the drive in disk management there are no options available except HELP. No management options whatsoever.

Can you solve this conundrum for me? Any help/advice greatfuly recieved

Peter

Drive 0 means the first physical HDD...drive 1 would be another physical HDD.
You cannot partition the C: drive under Windows.

What exactly do you want to do with this drive ? ?

More info and we can steer you down the right path.

This is easy.
I'm a moron-level user (that's below totally confused :)  and I have done this.

First do your housework, clean out the Recycle bin, temp files, etc.
Defrag.
Backup.

Download BurnCDCC from here :
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/burncdcc.html
Place it where you can quickly access it.

Download GParted from here :
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php
Leave it unopened on your desktop.
Open BurnCDCC and tell it to burn GParted.

A few minutes later you will have a very effective Partitioning Utility that is bootable.

With Vista running, open the CD tray and insert GParted.
Shut down and reboot.
GParted will start and hold your hand through the partitioning process.
Leave plenty of headroom for Vista and you won't have any problems.
