CPU Replacement
« on: April 10, 2007, 02:39:56 AM »
I just want to ask you guys if i could replace my current CPU (P3 701Mhz) with P3 1.0Ghz using Socket 370? I used a tool to determine if my motherboard can handle it but I only got this message:

Quote
MAX CPU: 800Mhz (and above...)

is this meant that i cant replace my CPU into 1.0Ghz? Just 800Mhz?

Originally the Socket 370 (PGA370) was designed for Celeron Mendocino CPUs. These processors were manufactured in plastic PGA (PPGA) package, ran at speeds 300 MHz - 533 MHz, and had 66 MHz front-side bus

this socket with the help of special PPGA-to-FC-PGA adapters

or To support newer Coppermine Celeron and Pentium III processors Intel revised specifications for the socket 370. The revised socket was mechanically compatible with the original specification, but there were differences in electrical specifications

If you read the specs on "your" socket 370........  you would have to - have one of these or both done already to your computer, not too sure..... :-\

Read this link and see if this explains it for you.......
