    « on: May 06, 2007, 01:40:52 PM »
Every time I try to go into word 2000.
it freezes or does nothing at all.
Message came up, word encountered file corruption.
Went into word startup, but it was empty.
    Running Windows 98SE.

Do you have your Microsoft Word instalation CD?
If you do, have you tried reinstalling Microsoft Word?

When was the last time you ran Scandisk?
      See the following:

The first step is to uninstall, reboot and then reinstall the software.

      Agreed.

But i'm also thinking Word 2000 wasn't written to run on a Win98 machine...

I have however been wrong in the past.

      What, exactly, is "word startup"?

Tell you the truth, I really don't know.
Some one had me go into some thing, which I don't remember.
        Into My Computer-C-Word....
        I ran Scandisk.
        Nothing happened.

It seems like it is almost the same problem that I ran into(see my other thread) except that I wasn't getting any error messages. The computer would just freeze. I googled "computer freezes on MS Word and found some really good info which fixed my problem. There are also three other files in Word that can get corrupted. They are: MSo9intl.dll, MSohelp.exe and MSoffice.exe. The recommend procedure is to find these files and change their extensions to .old, then re-install Office and select "repair". This might work.
