Tribes 2 won't work
« on: May 04, 2007, 02:25:34 AM »
My brother downloaded Tribes 2 setup from the internet (yes, this IS legal), and gave it to me.
The setup worked on my brother's computer, but it doesn't work on mine! I don't know why this happens, so can anyone help?

My OS is Windows XP SP2. More information will be posted if needed.

Well, what exactly does "doesn't work" mean?  It'd be helpful to know what happens.

Does the game run?
If so, does it crash or run improperly?
If not, do you get any errors?  Also...

Can you install the game?
If so, did you install the latest patches?
If not, again, do you get any errors?

I don't know what policies Sierra might have these days, but maybe the game only allows one account per product key.  There might not be a legal way to do this (it's a bit of a gray area).

Sierra actual put free downloads of Tribes 1 and 2 on the internet, so there is no product key.

From what I remember, I ran the setup, the entire setup ran, but as soon as I started up the game, it said something like:
unhandled exception: e00043 (some numbers)
And the game didn't load.

I'll run the setup again tommorow, and post exactly what happens.

What else should I say...?

It worked on my brother's computer.
It didn't work on mine.
We have the same OS.
The setup runs.
When trying to run the program, it says unhandled exception with some numbers.
I uninstalled the program.
I ran it again.
It didn't work.
So I uninstalled again, and reinstalled, then I wound up here.

Is that enough information? I don't know what else to say, so just ask me.

Well, did you patch the game? What is the exact error? Did you diagnose your memory/HDD?

Ah, so you're right (just checked).  Thanks for that; I've now got both games on my queue list.  Where did your brother get Tribes 2?  Most sites state that a key is still required, but perhaps that's just for online play?

Answer Raptor's questions and we'll see what we have to work with.

And just for the heck of it, have you tried running the game in Windows Compatibility mode?

Well, I've found the problem. First, for anyone that wants to know, here is the error message that comes up when I try to run Tribes 2:
Code: [Select]
Unhandled exception: c0000005
At address: 00000000

My brother searched that error code, and discovered something. It was a problem with my GRAPHICS CARD! I have a NVIDIA GeForce MX\MX 400, and other people with that exact grahics card have the same error code. I'll post more if I cannot fix this problem (move this topic if needed, because I don't think I can).
