What video card should I use?
« on: May 21, 2007, 06:41:43 PM »
I'm building a new computer here, and I guess I'm gonna start with the video card.  The budget is around $150 and I plan on doing video editing and some not so heavy gaming.  Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Look in the FAQ section of the forum about video cards.

Your computer or motherboard make and model would be required to know what type of card(s) are options.

Well, I haven't chosen any other parts yet.  I wanted to start with a video card first.  But if anyone has an idea of a nice motherboard/video card combo, that would be great as well.

Thanks!

If you get a really nice AGP video card, but your next motherboard does not have an AGP card, you will be down $150, or whatever you spent.

If you are getting an nVidia based motherboard, you probably don't want an ATI video card.

If you buy the video card first, it may well be obsolete by the time you get the rest of the components.

Etc.  ;)

I find that designing a build is always kind of a catch 22. You know that you want a PCI-x16 vid card. But you also have to fit your processor, mobo, power supply, DVD dive, RAM, and hard drive into your price range too. What is your budget? That is usually a good starting point, and then people who know about what things cost  can help you pick out a worthy system.

Why are all these 512 MB cards fanless?  Do I need a special fan for it?  Or do I just need good air flow inside the case?

Thanks!
