Slow Computer

[program not responding]

Hi Forum,

My Dell Dimension 4700 (Pentium 4, 300GHz, 1G RAM) displays various problems. Lately it just runs slower and slower as my session goes on. If I reboot, it "resets" and things are fine until it again slows and slows. Websites take forever to load. Previously it has been locking up, particularly when accessing web sites, and I would get a message saying "program not responding". I have run spyware and virus scans, and deleted all Cookies. The firewall is turned off. I have run a Windows Memory Diagnostic program, and it says the RAM is fine. I must reboot the computer, however to begin the program. Since it runs OK at start-up, do you think the problem could still be RAM?

what programs are you using for protection?? what  OS do you have

How much free space is on that HDD ? ?

To check open My Computer right click on C: and select Properties...

Report what it finds.

Thanks for the response! It is Windows XP Home Edition, MS Office Professional, Internet Explorer, and FireFox. FireFox runs better than Explorer (doesn't lock up as much), but still locks up when I click on a web link, sometimes.

I am using Trend Micro protection suite 2007.

The C: is 150GB; 6.6 used, 142 free

i just installed trend micro on my test laptop.... you cant have spybot on there for some stupid reason....
