So you want to create a VPN or a domain?
If it is a normal workgroup then all the settings will have to change but I guess it is a domain witch can use VPN connection.
You can simply go to start -> connect to -> show all network connections -> file -> new connection -> next -> set up connection manually-> fill everything in.

For a normal company LAN (Local Area Network) this will work but it could be that the company network doesn't support VPN. When the company doesn't use a domain.
Try this and let us know.

I am sorry to say that this is not how networking works.

Your home computer would need a way to authenticate to the work LAN. This is normally done with a domain controller which means you have to setup a domain at work.
