Computer freezes for no reason...
« on: August 05, 2007, 08:51:15 PM »
Okay I'm running Windows XP Home Edition. My problem is that when I'm signing into my dial-up connection, right when everything gets connected, and it is about to show the icon for being connected in the system tray, the computer like freezes. To get out of the freeze I have to click on start, and then click ctrl alt del like 50-200 times for it to unfreeze. It usually only does this when I'm signing into my connection, but rarely it does it some time else.

My computer doesn't have viruses as I have checked...

Any help would be great, thanks!

More info, Ram, Cpu, HDD (space), recent events that may have caused this, etc.

Also, to rule out some infection possibility you could post a HiJackThis log and upload the executable you use for connecting to http://virusscan.jotti.org/ so we can rule out some form of 'dialer' thats stuffing up? I don't know if that will help but it could rule out something...

Get these on the computer through a memory stick or CD.
    System specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (up to 3.3 stock V and air)
    ASUS Striker Extreme
    XFX 8600GT XXX Edition
    2x 1gB Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800
    Seagate Barracuda 320gB SATA
    Raidmax Ninja 918 (520W ATXV2.0 PSU)

Get these on the computer through a memory stick or CD.

      RAM is 512 mb
      CPU is 2.1 ghz
HDD space is 108 gb free
No recent events that would have caused this
What do you mean by the second part of your post
      No newer modem drivers

dl spybot search and destroy on another computer and move it to yours and see what it finds
