Which is the better out of these 2 computers? (For Gaming)
« on: September 19, 2007, 11:36:09 AM »
I’ve been doing some research on getting a new PC for gaming and I’d like to know what you guys would recommend out of these 2. They are priced almost exactly the same, but I’m so poor with computers I don’t know which ones better.

PC 1:

Case: NZXT Lexa
Power Supply: Tagan ITZ Series 900W
Processor: Core 2 Duo E6700 4MB cache
CPU Cooler: Thermaltake Golden Orb Cooler
Graphics Card 1: BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB PCI Express
Graphics Card 2: BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB PCI Express
Memory: 2GB Corsair DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX
Motherboard: Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus Socket 775
Hard Disk Drive One: 500GB Caviar SE16 SATA 300

PC 2:

Processor: Overclocked, Liquid Cooled Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz (1066MHz FSB, 2 x 2MB L2 Cache) @ 3GHz+*
Chipset: nVidia 650i Ultra
Cooling and Case: EAST Modded Titanium Zalman Zmachine GT1000
Power Supply: Corsair 620w HX Series ATX 2.2 Power Supply
Motherboard: EVGA nForce 650i Ultra (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Memory: 2GB CellShock/Mushkin 6400 DDR2 Dual Kit (2x1GB) 5-5-4-12
Disk Drives: 320gb (2 x 160gb) Western Digital SATA-II 16mb Cache NCQ Hard Drives in RAID 0 Configuration
Graphics Card: nVidia GeForce 8800GTX 768MBGDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)

--------------------------------------------------------------------

The first one has 2 graphics cards, so I would have thought that one would be better… But that’s a complete guess.

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

(For those that want to know they come to £1500-£1600)

They each have their good points.
Advantages of 1: Better graphics capabilities, more HDD space.
Advantages of 2: Liquid cooled (quieter and cooler) and overclocked (faster) CPU, RAID 0 HDDs for faster performance.

IMHO, the first is better, but pretty expensive, and way over the top for most people.

Calum again hit it directly on the head.

I would choose the first one without a single doubt.

But, if you can, take the CPU (without the watercooling) from the second PC and use it to replace the CPU in the first PC.

Or better yet, just build your own PC. Best hardware, best prices, just BEST.

perhaps I am not reading this right but, the second one only has 320gb instead of the 500gb the first offers. I'd rather have the first one, but I'd rather buy the second one. Oh and you can always overclock the first one yourself (I OC'd my 2Ghz AMD chip to 2.2GHz easily). Liquid cooling can be installed but will add to the cost. And you may want a system that can just be setup and be done with it. One more hint: try and get windows XP rather than Vista it's 4x faster.
      System Specs:
      AMD Athlon 64 3200+
      1024MB DDR400
      GeForce 7600GS
      160GB SATA II
      500-watt PSU

        Look closer.
The second one offers a Dual-160GB RAID 0 array.
I'd rather have the first one, but I'd rather buy the second one.

I have no idea what this means..
Oh and you can always overclock the first one yourself

        Not quite.
The E6750 can overclock way higher than the E6700
        (I OC'd my 2Ghz AMD chip to 2.2GHz easily).

OMG! So it is YOU that the prophecy speaks of! The one that overclocked a 2Ghz CPU to 2.2Ghz!!

        Sorry, I had to  ;D
And you may want a system that can just be setup and be done with it.

No, that's not a good idea.
One more hint: try and get windows XP rather than Vista it's 4x faster.

        Not 4x.. more like 1.5x.

My bad, it's a 320Gb array.  I read it as 2x320Gb RAID 0, it is in fact 2x160Gb.
So, I have edited my post to reflect that, thanks linuxlover.
The second PC's storage is still faster however.

If they are the same price, the first one is by far the better choice.

            Agreed.
            But both setups are expensive.
