Actually it is good that we found out.  In the past we didnt have them checked just got rid of them when they died.  Now we at least know why our computers keep dying on us and can do something about it.  Our first computer lasted for many years (packard bell, win 95) but ever since living in this house they have not lasted more than a couple years and never that long without problems along the way.

So I guess it is good & bad news all in one.

A good solution would be a UPS unit...un-interruptable power supply.
It won't fix the house wiring but it will provide a more consistent electrical supply to the computer,
