HELP ME PLEASE!!!
« on: October 24, 2007, 08:36:28 PM »
I've tried Macafee, Spybot, AdAware, and AVG anti-virus. and nothing is working!!!! I keep getting popups dialogue boxes that say my computer is infected with (worm.win32.netsky). I seriously cant even use my computer without getting 8,000 popups per minute. I'm ready to take a baseball bat to it. and also, out of nowhere, my desktop background has changed to a biohazard symbol that reads "your privacy is in danger, download privacy protection software now".....MY ENTIRE DESKTOP IS A LINK. someone please, please help me

What Windows version? Do you have Recovery CD, or Windows CD?

Definitely sounds like a classic SmitFraud infection.  Check out the following page...
http://www.pchell.com/support/smitfraud.shtml

NOTE: If you are running Vista, SmitFraudFix probably won't work (last time I checked).

Download SUPERAntiSpyware, update it, and scan with it in Safe Mode.  Let it fix whatever it wants, then restart your computer and post a HijackThis log.

thanks for the replies. I think I may have actually fixed it, but i really dont know yet. i restarted in safe mode, ran AVG, spybot, and adaware, let them fix everything, then did a system restore to a week prior to this happening and it's been about an hour now and no popups or security warnings. I will keep you all posted, and again, thank you.

Sorry for the late response.  Life has been super busy around here...

Typically, it's not a good idea to run System Restore after you've disinfected, but because you went back to before the infection, it shouldn't be a concern.  However, I would run a few more scans in Safe Mode just be on the safe side.

You have your HijackThis in a temporary location.  I would recommend downloading it again, but this time, save it to a safe permanent location such as C:\Program Files\HJT.  Once you have done that, scan with HijackThis again and check the following entries (if still present)...

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {34E6F97C-34E0-4CE5-B92B-F83634BEDC01} - C:\Program Files\Video ActiveX Access\iesplg.dll (file missing)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe

Close all windows (including this one—so you might want to print this post out) except for HijackThis and click on Fix Checked.  You should then reboot into Safe Mode and enable hidden files and folders.  Remove the following with Add/Remove Programs...

Video ActiveX Access

Be sure to list any programs you don't recognize.

Then navigate to the following files/folders and delete them (if present)...

C:\Program Files\Video ActiveX Access
C:\WINDOWS\ALCXMNTR.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe

Restart back into Safe Mode and post back with a new log and an update on how things are running.

thanks CbMatt, everything seems to have gone back to normal since the since the system restore. but I will defiantely take your suggestions and run a few more scans in safe mode to be on the safe side, and also move the HJT to a permanent location. thanks again for your help, you've been a lifesaver. this forum is awesome.

I'm happy to help.  Be sure to come back with an update sometime and any questions you might have.  Also, you should update your Java.  You'll want to correct this quickly, as it will help provide further protection for you.  To do so, go here and click on Free Java Download.  You will be given instructions on what to do next.  After installing, remove any old versions of Java that are on your computer.
