Error with Local Disk (C)
« on: November 17, 2007, 11:18:52 AM »
hi All,
Hope somebody can help me....everytime i try to open my c drive i receive the error:
"the file does not have a program associated with it to perform this action, create an associate in the folder options control panel"

this used to work before so really not sure what is after happening. Ran a scan recently & removed some viruses, this has popped up ever since

Would really appreciate some guidance :)
Thank you!

There is a new virus that I am researching that does this as well (new in english anyway), and I've helped a few people fix it. Tell me, do you have the following processes running? (check in task manager)

    Any of:
    quqnrtl.exe
    ehjalrp.exe
    Ibvtcgv
    Rqgghnk

    Also seen with:
    winadr.exe
    sourro.exe
    intent.exe
    winlogor.exe
    winrar.exe
    diskman32.exe

For now, until we get this sorted out, just right click C drive and click explore. That should do the trick for the moment. But tell me if you've got any of those processes running, especially any of the first 4.

    Hi All,
thank you for the replies - I am using windows xp,  right clicking the c drive & choosing explore lets me access, thank you!
i have checked the task manager and dont see any of the listed processes running.
I installed microsoft office when i first got PC now however I cannot access power point anymore, i get the error
"the path microsoft office xp cannot be found, find the installation package 'PRO.MSI' in a folder from where you can install....."

i think removing virusus may have caused this, ant ideas?
    Many thanks

Possible. You may need to reinstall Office.

    Also...
    Download HijackThis:

and post its log at Computer Viruses and Spyware forum.

When you right click on drive C, what other options are in the pop-up menu?

This sounds vaguely like a virus I had to remove off a friend's computer.

I'm not convinced this is caused by malware but it seems everyone else is...
freeman do you have an XP CD ? ?
If so go to Start / Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter.
Have your XP CD handy as it will ask for it.
Let it run to completion and then re-boot.

The Power point issue may need some additional effort.
