No Admin rights?
« on: January 20, 2008, 01:48:02 PM »
Tried to change my computers operating system.  I have a complete XP package.  However, when I go to install I receive a message that says I do not have administrator rights to make changes.  I am not on a network.

Can anyone tell me what that means?  never had that problem before.

You better start off by telling us what kind of computer we're trying to diagnose and what you did when you tried to change the OS.

One good deed is worth more than a year of good intentions.

No brand name on the computer case.  Bought it from a small computer store that typically sold to small businesses running computer networks.  I thought it odd that he asked my network configuration when I went in to buy.

Original operating system was windows 98.  Had someone upgrade to Windows XP.

I have a fully licensed copy of XP (full edition) that I want to re-install to get rid of all the stuff my son and daughter put on the computer.  Get a fresh start and use the computer for my work excel spread sheets.

Maybe there is another way I can do that?

Boot to the XP cd  and delete the existing partition / recreate a new one and install the OS.

If that doesn't work then go here...

    http://www.bootdisk.com/

Download the disk for XP and try them.
