    Saving downloads to a folder.
    « on: January 29, 2008, 09:19:14 PM »
My old computer would allow me to click on something I intended to download and then choose which folder I wanted the downloaded file to go. I got a new computer with Vista and it came with IE version 7, now when I click a download it doesn't ask me where to save it. This is important for my sims 2 downloads. If I download something like "eyes" or "clothes" I need to put them in the appropriate folder. Is there any type of options or settings i can change in either firefox or IE that will ask me where I want to save the downloaded content before I download it?

In FireFox it is in Tools/Options/Main/Downloads...check "always ask me where to save "

Good luck with IE...i never use it.

Oh man if that works you have no idea how much trouble you saved me.

The only reason I used IE was because it asked where to save the downloads.

I'll try that, thank you SOOOOO much.

By default, IE downloads in Windows Vista go to the Downloads folder; I believe that's a standard folder with Vista.  But, you can select another folder.   When you initiate a download, you have the option to Run or Save.  Choose Save, then you'll see a Save As panel with a button titled Browse Folders, at the lower left of the panel.  Click on it and browse to the folder you want to download to.
