This is not a good approach for freeing up HDD space as it is directly tied to the operating system...
I'd start looking at some other things you could get rid of outside of Windows and or invest in a burner to move some stuff off the drive.
Hard drives are relatively cheap these days have you considered adding another one ? ?

So, is this a laptop computer?  Is the hard drive partitioned?  If you go to My Computer, how many Hard Disk Drives does it show?

Then, replace your internal hard drive.

Do have some major drive space hogs on your hard drive, such as photos, music, etc.?  Do you know what accounts for most of the hard drive space consumption?

yes indeed its a laptop computer  :)but a lousy one

anyhow, got few pictures on it as i regularly burn them into CDS..i guess i will need to do the same to music files !

i think what actually fills the hard drive are the programs i install but i really went over them and deleted what i dont use and again thats why i was asking about uninstalling IE
