    New Computer
    « on: April 20, 2008, 02:10:23 PM »
Hey Guy Iam new here   :o :o And iam building a new computer i want this computer to be some what top of the line but i do have a budget. I will list the things i want to put in it below. I wont be listing the ram because ill just take the ram out of this computer iam on now to save money since some of these parts are fairly high priced. I will also be buying these things 2 by 2 each month because i really want a nice computer this time because of my last only 300 dollar budget had me stuck with [bleep] parts and a low end gfx card. But any who i wanna know what you guys think about the things i list.Oh yea i already have 3 hard drive that why i will only have one listed i want a fast one this time since i wanna run vista.

Why such a big power supply?  Not very good reviews on that one either.  With what you have listed, this one would be way more than you need, and is only $93 after rebate. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341002

Why 4 hard drives? I still think the one I have listed is overkill even with  4 hard drives. But to be sure, do a search on (power supply calculator) and see exactly what you need. I would add 100-200 watts for head room. And get a quality brand power supply.  I like seasonic myself.

From what I have read, you will notice little if any speed improvement with the faster hard drives. I guess it can't hurt, but if you go with 4 gigs of memory (it is so cheap now it is silly not to) I think the extra hard drive will be a waste of money IMHO

Either way, use a power supply calculator and see what you need.

Another thing.  I would wait and buy all the parts at once.  Prices tend to come down on computer parts, and you could save a fair amount of cash.

What type (speed) of ram are you going to use?

here are a couple things you may wish to consider...

                      1. your motherboard is a Crossfire board but you are purchasing a Nvidia card. this is fine, however, you will not be able to use another nvidia card and go SLI.

                      2. i recommend not purchasing such a ridiculously high priced harddrive. i faster harddrive will NOT make your computer faster, it will only make reading and writing off the harddrive faster. if you plan on using this computer for gaming, it will only make the game load faster, not play smoother. however, if you have the money and dont care that its only 73gb, then go for it.

                      3. as for the blue ray burner, i cannot see why you really need it, but again, if you have the money then go for it.

                      4. if your spending money on $170 harddrives and $260 blu ray burners, why not get a better video card? i suggest a 9800GTX, or if you really have money to spend, a 9800GX2.

                      5. i suggest a power supply manufactured by corsair or OCZ, they both sell good quality power supplies. also i would suggest  around a 750w because 1000w is a little excessive.
