    I'm just being picky...
I usually advise users to right click an empty area of their desktop, and then click Personalization.
In a basic computer users mind who is determined to think they need help, the Control Panel seems like a really big thing they try and avoid... the word "Control" implies this, since they think its really the center of the computer, a place where they shouldent be.

I actually used to make tutorials with HTML... I think I still have an old one... Its not nearly as difficult as you may think it is, but, I like how Wink works, especially since it shows the mouse movement.
In my tutorials, I told users where to click. I used a location technology for HTML which I can not remember the name for, and made hidden layers appear if they clicked the wrong thing, letting them know, and describing better what to do. More so allowing the user to do it themselves than just showing it.
I showed this tutorial to a few members on CH, and their reply was that it might be a bit complex for the basic user, and required a lot of clicking.

It's either that goofy Layer ActiveX Control or CSS.

and required a lot of clicking.

and you should have said, "as opposed to what? Using a computer? Because last time I checked, that uses quite a lot of mouse clicking."

    It wasnt either...
Its an image mapping thing... (Watch me show how descriptive I can be...)
You would designate parts of an image (eg: The start menu in a screen shot) and you could make them into links.
Its built into Dreamweaver, and can be accomplished by only HTML. Your browser has to be compatible with it... I think its lowest browser was IE 5.

I know, its just a lot of duplicated clicking I guess...
I'll have to try and find it... its on my step dads computer (which I inconspicuously back stuff up to over the network) I'll have to upload it once I get a chance.

While right-clicking on the desktop may be easier and involves less mouse clicks, it really doesn't give the user an idea of where to find the actual program itself.

While I do agree, you're way is shorter...it really doesn't aid the user in understanding just what is in their Control Panel.

While some may want to "steer clear" of it...it's really not being helpful and/or informative.

Interactive HTML is okay, but having a link that a user clicks on telling them it's the wrong link, or button, for that matter, seems a little futile...but most of all...useless...since they shouldn't have clicked it anyway.

The thing with flash is that it's all pictures...which most of us would rather use...rather than reading.  Combining the two...priceless.

I understand, I was just a bit curious as to why you explained it that way, and now I know. I'll have to think about that a bit more

I've seen a lot of sites tell Vista users to just press the Windows key and type something (eg: Personalization) and press ENTER.
I actually like this, since it gets the point across, I was very glad that Vista has the start menu search the Control Panel... finding things like Disk Management in the Control Panel can just be a pain.

Ahh I remember those, either a set of attributes to the IMG tag or a separate IMAGEMAP tag. either way, I've never used them. I have tried making "hotspots" in an image with the old windows help kit, but it looked really dumb.

I know Wink would have been very useful here:

However, thanks to Broni's Gadwin Printscreen, I pulled through. :)

        I was only kidding...

Trying to give credit to Glitch, when it wasn't due him.  I think the Collider is still on the "fritz"...the gum must've lost its hold. ;D

Glitch gets LOTS of credit...someone had to show them where the gum goes :)
