Neophyte discovers short-cut to connecting to internet
    « on: July 22, 2008, 09:33:44 PM »
    hello,

after occasional bouts with "cannot find server" error messages while attempting to connect to the internet,
    i discovered a handy surprise.
when the icon announcing "local area connector has little or no connection" sits above a yellow triangular
figure with a black exclamation sign in the center, in my bottom tray, i right clicked it.
then i clicked "repair" and WHOA!, instant internet connection.

whatever it is it saves alot of keying and frustrating wait time.

maybe it'll work for you if you have server problems...   :D

Happens to me sometimes at school with the Wireless.
They say they are improving the system but they've recently stopped funding the Computers at our school.
1/3rd of them are not usable anymore. (i'd like to go install Linux on them if they are just sitting there)

And what does that mean? How are they not usable?
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

      oh, the horror.  :'(

they aren't bootable, as in, completely....not...bootable. at least from HDD.

carbon and i have tried booting up windows pe from a usb i think it was..and it worked.

but then again, not everyone goes around with windows pe or linux on their usb.

it's not just non-bootable computers. we've got computer chairs with a leg missing, chairs without proper spines. mice with mouse balls missing, laser mice still work though.

      rmb the language lab carbon?

guys, when i say this, i'm not exagerrating at all, but we entered a room full of computers equipped each with a chair, and a pair of headphones.

instead, we witnessed a wasteland. chairs were lying on the floor, headphones had their wires ripped out, most of the computers were also rendered un-bootable.

that's probrably when funding for new computers stopped, guess there was just too much vandalism.  :-\

This little thing is pretty much the same as running ipconfig /release then renew from the command prompt. Does the same thing. It may do other things I am not aware of though  ;)

Jason, you're exaggerating.....Well maybe not too much.  :P

You've gotta convince your parents to allow you to bring your laptop to school. It will ease the pain.  ;)

haha. i don't think that's gonna happen anytime soon, after i recently spilt 7up all over my laptop.

about the repairing of connection in the case of limited connectivity.

i've had similar problems before, but when i click repair, i get an error saying i could not "renew my ip address".

i think my desktop machine's too old.  :D

At the lounge in LAX, I tried connecting to the wireless but it said that the configuration of my wireless adapter wasn't right. I spend 10 minutes trying to find out what was wrong but in the middle of one of the troubleshooting, it just spontaneously connected.
