My toshiba satellite A205-S4777 laptop is freezing

My toshiba satellite A205-S4777 laptop is freezing on the startup for windows. I believe it is the cooling fan or a malfunction in the hard drive. This happens everytime after I put my password to access windows. I really want to get it fixed so I can save my stuff and not have to factory restore. I was very dumb and did not save my files to a backup any suggestions appreciated thanks steve

What did you do before the problem? (downloads, installs, hardware changes, ect....)

Also, can you log on in Safe Mode?
